Back Yourself and Your Dreams

“The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I’m not going to let myself pull me down anymore.” – C. JoyBell C.

We talk about having a million dollar vision as the basis for any dream to become a reality but without belief, that vision will remain just that.

A million-dollar, unwaivering self-belief and belief in yourself, your company and your opportunity is crucial. Without it, even the smallest of rejections or setbacks will severely hamper, if not end your journey.

The reason for anyone’s aversion to success, their reason for quitting before payday, their excuses as to why it won’t work – really boils down to the fact they do not have the belief – either in themselves or the opportunity.

From a young age we are taught ‘the right way’ to do things – ‘the right way’ to be successful and ‘the type of people’ that succeed. As a child we are free to dream and envision our life exactly how we would like and we have not yet had that self-belief beaten out of us. Ask any toddler what they want to be when they grow up and they’ll say things like – Fireman! Astronaut! Superhero! As adults we often scoff and with a patronising pat on the back assure them ‘You can be whatever you want to be darling’ – but do we really mean it?

Many of us have heard phrases such as “oh there’s hardly any jobs in that field” or “only very few people get accepted to that course” – and so we settle for less. Unintentionally we are forced to believe we are less than what we are capable of. That we aren’t exceptional. That ‘normal people’ do not achieve extraordinary things.

It could not be farther from the truth. Every single person who has made a significant contribution to society and changed history started with one thing – a belief they could. So why can’t you? Who you are in this moment, your beliefs and your mindset is not set in stone. You are not a tree – if you don’t like where you are, get up and move. It starts with you.

So where do we find this belief?

Here’s our top tips for building your self-belief!

– Belief is learnable! Read books, surround yourself with positive people and research those who have done what you would like to. The more ‘evidence’ you give your brain that it can be done, the more belief you will build.

– Borrow it! From your colleagues, your peers, your mentors. Surround yourself with positive, inspiring people who are where you would like to be in life and follow their lead.

– Work on your weaknesses, but focus and amplify your strengths! If you’re constantly working on your weaknesses it zaps not only your energy but your confidence. Of course work on becoming better at your weaknesses but amplify and celebrate your strengths first!

– Constantly re-visit your vision and your why. Nothing is more motivating than your dreams.
