Decide To Be Decisive

“Inability to make decision is one of the principal reasons executives fail. Deficiency in decision-making ranks much higher than lack of specific knowledge or technical know-how as an indicator of leadership failure.” – John C. Maxwell

Making concise, definitely decisions are crucial in growth and success of business – especially in the world of an entrepreneur.

The number one reason people falter on making a decision is the ‘what if’ factor. What if I’m wrong? What if it doesn’t work? What if I’m ridiculed? This habit of overthinking and fear are two serious that hinder growth and effective decision-making in entrepreneurs. In the words of former US President Theodore Roosevelt: “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing at all.”

To be a successful business owner and leader, one must learn to master the skill (yes, we said skill) of decision making. Condensed down there is a simple formula one can follow to ensure decisions can be made both efficiently and effectively. You’re not going to always get it right – but that’s ok. Failure is just another platform for growth and as long as you are learning from the experience it was worth your time.

How to make effective business decisions:

  • Identify the problem. Are changes necessary? Where and why do you need to make some changes?
  • Consider all possible solutions. Does your decision involve personal changes or those that affect an entire team? Your solutions may be simple and will decrease workload and training or they may increase both. You must consider all pros and cons for each solution.
  • The most important of all the steps. Be clear on your goal and keep your eyes on the prize – make the decision that will get you there most quickly and effectively.
  • Review the decision. After making the decision it’s important to then go back and review how progress is going – you will more than likely need to tweak the direction and make some more changes to get yourself 100% on track.

This formula can be applied to all areas of your life, not just business. Banish fear, take the reins of your life and start by becoming a confident decision maker.

Live, love, lead a life by design.
